Here I sit wondering what the Voice of Reason might say this week. We
hear a lot about respect in this business. Everyone wants it and some get it. I liken wrestling in Central Florida to a Middle or High School. There is the popular crowd, who for some reason or another just have the ability to think very highly of themselves and convince others just how great and cool they are, and make themselves even feel bigger by running down those less fortunate or cool than they are. and make themselves feel bigger and more important each day. The truth is that unless you have a contract from one of the big two, you are all in the same boat. Wannabes! You can make fun of other wrestlers, you can have good laughs at their expense, but at the end of the evening you all go home and wish you were getting the big break and getting the big money. So all you guys who spend time running down other wrestlers, if that is all you've got to do instead of making yourself a better worker and a better person, I guess you just have to continue doing what you're doing. That may be the only way you ever get to be a big man. Right in your own mind. I know some pretty nice guys, who are good workers, who are the brunt of your jokes and disrespect. If you dont think it hurts, then you are pretty damn stupid. Ignorance is acceptable because it can be changed. Stupidity can't. So go ahead, do your locker room jokes and keep yourself at the top in your own mind. Evidentally you haven't changed from your days in middle school or junior high. That in itself is pretty sad. |

Independent Wrestling, the minor league training camp of pro wrestling.
Most of the wrestlers who work in the indies will never experience the thrill and excitement of playing to thousands and thousands of fans.Yet each month more and more workers try and put together their own compqanies to challenge the already saturated field of independent shows. Most fail, some succeed. None has succeeded more than NWA/IPW Florida under Joe Price and Ron Niemi. Last week after being one of the most successful independent promotions they closed their doors. The people in the Gulf coast of Florida will miss them. Here in Central Florida, MFW has decided to try again to bring their brand of mayhem back to life. It is hard to stay focused on so many shows and though there may be some heat amongst some promoters, I am happy to say that I have managed to stay friends with mostly everyone. As part owner of NRW, I have decided to take a back seat and let Rico Casanova take the helm, while still remaining commissioner. Now being commissioner in three Central Florida groups promises to keep me busy, but that is the fun of this job. This also cements relationships with the groups and as the voice of reason I hope to be able to bring all groups to the table so no one will be running against anothers show. As a friend of Tom Bass owner of MFW I would like to offer him any assistance I can to get MFW back on a firm footing. It really doesnt matter, whether it is NRW, NWA,. MFW, SA , SECW, CWA or SGWA in Georgia, the business of independent wrestling has got to be fun. But when the fun stops its time to get out. Right now I am having the most fun since I got back in the business four years ago. The beauty of running Wrestling Wrap is that I get to deal with all groups and offer them a little free publicity. No one I know of goes into this business for money. They do it for the love of the sport, the thrill of the crowds, the sweat and bruises and the exilharation of the faans screaming for you or against you. Whatever it is, its what makes us all who we are. |

As most of you know by now the June 24th show in Sanford put on by NWA
Heat Wave was cancelled. It was sabotaged by someone in the business that wants the reputation of the NWA ruined and the persons in charge disgraced. It was a feeble attempt at best. Yep, the show was cancelled but it did nothing more than strengthen the resolve of the NWA and its 3 affiliates here in Central Florida to fight back all the harder. I am sure the person or persons responsible are glad handing each other all over the place. The bad luck suffered by the independent shows in this area over the last month has been nothing but stupefying. Totally unrelated events to the one I have just mentioned either by a cracked ring beam or a recurrence of cancer, it has dealt a blow to our wrestling community. I can tell you this whoever played this dirty little trick, the laughs will be short lived. I assure you. Thats the way you want to succeed in this business, keep trying. Every time one fed folds there is another one ready to start out. Even SECW is ready to make a comeback in Central Florida. I expected more from all groups in Central Florida and though I dont know who the culprit was I am sure that it wont be taken lying down and there is a lot of money behind this Heat Wave venture and they are not going to take it lying down. No matter who won and who lost on this day, It is a sad day for wrestlers and wrestling fans alike. |
